New Events for 2013

KEEP CALM EVENTS is proud to announce two major events for 2013 to take place aboard HMS Trincomalee in Hartlepool's Historic Quayside.

Our first new event is the first Sea Glass Festival ever held aboard a British warship, in fact it might well be the first festival of it's kind. A two day event, on May 18th and 19th, it will give you an insight into the world of Sea Glass collecting, jewellery making and more. To see details please visit the PEBLSFLOAT blog

The second event, another first, takes place on the 16th June, Father's Day no less, and is a Steampunk Convivial.

Tiffin on the Trinc is the first of what we hope will become an annual event, involving a day of Steampunk and related activities followed by food, drink and entertainment, this year we've secured Birthrite and BB Blackdog for your delectation.

During the day you can explore the ship and quayside, but there's a fee to enter the quayside so be warned. After 5pm it's free!

There will be tickets on sale after Xmas for the evening concert and food etc.

For full details visit the dedicated blog page - TiffinontheTrinc

Don't forget your goggles!

Join us aboard the TRINCOMALEE

On the 29th July 2012 we shall be making the first of what we hope will be many visits to the Trincomalee, the oldest British warship afloat, in the Historic Quay at Hartlepool. We are there to support their Craft and Food fare, which runs from 1pm to 7pm in the evening. Admission is free after 5pm.

We shall be taking over the mess deck on board this amazing vessel on two more occasions this year, a wedding fair on the 23rd of September and the Christmas fair on the 18th November. For each fair you will find us below the gun deck, and we will have ten tables of assorted crafts and art available for you to peruse and purchase.  The gun deck will also feature crafters from outside of our group, but we're all friends in the crafting community, so there's no chance of a brawl breaking out.

As a bonus, and if you want to see the ship, enjoy the craft fair, but are busy during the day, you can come after 5pm and enjoy the craft fair for free. (During the day you should enter through the Historic Quay, for which there is an admission charge.)

Maps are available along with full details of the venue at their very detailed website here

This is the mess deck where our motley crew of crafters will ply their trade...

This has to be the most unusual and fascinating venue for a craft fair you could visit so why not pop along and see what we have to offer.

More information will follow for the other two fairs this year, and we may add other dates if the interest is high.

The Big Crafty Card Table

As promised, here is how the Big Crafty Card Table looked on the day. Despite being told by some that it would just be a great big mess, it wasn't. this was taken after two hours of activity and nothing was out of place. In face some of the smaller piles had completely gone and i had to fill the edges with postcards from our friends at moo.com, and they disappeared too within the next hour...

And finally the Bundle of Love...
I'll add more as i receive them, sadly my camera let me down on the day, poor old thing, so i'm collecting members photos to use on the blog. Bear with me as these are assembled.

As you can see the response was fab, we raised several hundred pounds for the centre, short of the target but definitely a good contribution to their work. It came in the wake of the Adventure Club having just received 3 years funding from Children in Need, which everyone was just amazed at having won.

So all in all a good day, a great idea that worked well, and as you can see a brilliant display of love by all the crafters who contributed.

many thanks for everything.

Show and Sell - Etsy Sellers, Belly Dancers and...

Hi. This is a message of thanks to all who supported our amazing day at Dawdon CC on Saturday. We had great attendance in the morning, then someone forgot the sun wasn't supposed to shine on Bank Holidays  - it came out, and we lost a lot of potential visitors in the afternoon. The sudden appearance of a fairground on the sea front didn't help much either...

Most stallholders seem to have had a great day, they enjoyed the atmosphere and the entertainment...

Fabulous Egyptian Belly dancers performed all around the venue and then gave us a perfectly choreographed show in the reception, thanks ladies, and if you'd like to join their classes, just call Claire on 07801 276015, they're based in Newcastle, Jesmond i believe??? and we're such fun to have around on the day.

The stalls were really well presented and made a great feast for the eye, the quality of goods on show was simply brilliant. Everyone was impressed...

Outside the hall, the Big Crafty Card Table was incredibly popular, with several bloggers and journalists taking entire boxes of cards with them to sieve through at their leisure. We were also allowed to sell copies of Crafts magazine, kindly supplied by the Crafts Council, and we had copies of Craftseller donated to be sold as part of the fudraising, which worked really well. The end result was several hundreds of pounds donated, we're still counting and awaiting some donations, and a boost for this amazing centre.
Here's how the cards looked. - more pics may follow later... Thanks everyone.

Getting to the Show &Sell fair on may 5th

We are staging our KEEP CALM it's a SHOW &SELL event at the Dawdon Community Centre in Seaham.
Getting to the event couldn't be easier.
Seaham is located South of Newcastle and Sunderland, North of Hartlepool and East of Durham

By car you can leave the A19 on the A182 junction and head for Seaham. This map shows the junction to take...
as you reach the third roundabout, instead of following the coast road, take the one before and head into the housing estate, following the road as it curves left and under the railway bridge.
After the railway bridge, climb the hill for around 100yds, and turn right at the crossroads. On your left you'll see a large building, that's the venue. Then turn left just before the building and park anywhere around the park area behind the building.

On this last map you can see bus stops. The 60(Drifter) from Sunderland stops right outside the venue and runs every 10 mins. The 203 also stops here, from Houghton le Spring or Peterlee. It runs hourly.

Trains are also possible, Seaham station is not far from the end of Princess Road, which becomes Queen Alexandra Road where the venue is located.

There's even a cycle route, from Hetton to the coast, which passes a couple of blocks from the venue. If you leave the cycle route at the circular railings shortly before it goes under a bridge and into Seaham, you're on Shrewsbury Street, that runs behind the Centre.

If you're using Sat Nav or need the address -
